Résumé : La communication est à la base de tout travail d’équipe. C’est particulièrement le cas pour le travail du son au cinéma : du tournage à la post-production, différents corps de métiers coopèrent et communiquent pour créer la bande sonore d’un film. La manière qu’a chacun d’exprimer ses intentions et ses ressentis concernant la création sonore est cruciale dans la confection d’une bande-son cohérente et en accord avec l’esthétique du film. Ces observations nous ont amenés à nous poser la question suivante : comment parle-t-on des sons ? Pour tenter d’y répondre, nous mettrons en place un test psychoacoustique, au cours duquel des sujets, profanes comme professionnels, écouteront un corpus de sons et devront répondre à plusieurs questions le concernant. Le but de cette recherche sera alors d’en analyser les résultats afin d’étudier le type de vocabulaire utilisé par les sujets, la place de l’affect dans leurs verbalisations, ou encore la hiérarchisation des différents aspects du son au sein de leurs réponses.

Abstract: Communication is the basis of any teamwork. It is particularly true when working for sound in movies: from the shooting to the post-production, many different professions cooperate and interact in order to create the movie’s soundtrack. The way that each person expresses her intentions and feelings about sounds is crucial in the making of a consistent soundtrack, in keeping with the movie’s esthetics. Those observations brought us to ask ourselves the following question: how do we talk about sounds? In order to answer that question, we will set up a psychoacoustic test, during which the subjects, both professionals and non-professionals, will have to listen to a sound corpus and answer to several questions about it. The goal of this research will then be to analyze its results, in order to study the type of vocabulary used by the subjects, the importance of affect in their verbalizations, or the prioritization of certain aspects of sound in their answers.
