La course-poursuite à pied : une figure cinématographique symbolique à l’image de son époque

Résumé : Selon Georges Sadoul, la poursuite aurait fait naître le style cinématographique, et devrait durer aussi longtemps que le cinéma. Nous chercherons, dans ce mémoire, à voir si cette figure a en effet toujours accompagné le cinéma et si elle a continué, comme à ses débuts, à en renouveler la forme. Comment, par l’évolution des moyens
techniques, elle aurait fait évoluer les rapports personnage-filmeur et corps-image. De par sa densité et sa nécessité à convoquer tous les outils cinématographiques pour rendre compte de ses enjeux, que sont la géographie, la vitesse, la physicalité, et le temps, j’étudierai cette forme comme étant le reflet symbolique des énergies du monde
occidental au moment de la réalisation des films.

Abstract: According to Georges Sadoul, the stylistic device of the chase scene is at the origin of cinematographic structure and dynamics and will prevail as long as cinema itself. The aim of this dissertation is to investigate whether the chase scene has indeed always accompanied cinema and whether this device has continued to evolve as at the outset; to examine in what way it has induced the relationship between the character and the cameraman and between the body and the image to expand; and to question how, through its density and necessity to summon all the cinematographic tools in order to account for what is at stake: geography, speed, physicality and time, the chase scene can be seen as a symbolic reflection of the energy of the western world at the time of production of the films in question.
