Résumé : L’avènement de l’ère du numérique dans les années 2000 a participé à la croissance exponentielle du domaine de l’intelligence artificielle. L’opinion publique, largement influencée par les médias et le paysage cinématographique, oscille entre crainte et fascination. Les représentations fantasmées et le manque de connaissance dans le domaine participent alors à la mystification de cette technologie. Aujourd’hui, les algorithmes intelligents s’immiscent dans le monde de l’art et bousculent les statuts d’auteur et d’oeuvre. L’étude de ces changements majeurs trouvent leurs racines à travers l’histoire de l’automatisation et celle de l’art. La cocréation humain-machine transforme alors progressivement le processus artistique. L’imagination, la perception, le choix et le hasard revêtent de nouvelles subtilités. Ces caractéristiques, initialement réservées aux êtres humains, tendent à trouver des équivalences au coeur du processus génératif. Néanmoins, l’apprentissage machine sera nuancé au détour d’exemples de diverses oeuvres d’art venant mettre en lumière les limites de ces progrès.

Abstract: The expansion of the digital age in the 2000s contributed to the exponential growth of the field of artificial intelligence. The public opinion, being largely influenced by the media and the cinematographic landscape, oscillates between fear and fascination. The fantasized representations and the lack of knowledge of this field participate in the mystification of the technology. Today, intelligent algorithms are entering the art world and shaking up the status of author and art work. The study of these major changes has its roots in the history of automation and the history of art. Human-machine co-creation gradually transforms the artistic process. Imagination, perception, choice and chance take on new subtleties. These characteristics, that were initially reserved for human beings, tended to find equivalences at the heart of the generative process. However, machine learning will be nuanced by looking at examples of various artworks that shed light on the limits of this progress.
