Résumé : Ce projet d’étude s’intéresse à l’enjeu du portrait photographique dans la publication de portraits politiques dans la presse, et plus particulièrement, dans la presse nationale quotidienne. Face à l’accumulation des portraits dans la presse, et à la place occupée par la communication via l’image en politique aujourd’hui, se pose la question de la limite entre information, communication et acte photographique, qui sous-tendent au portrait politique de presse. Au cours de ce travail de recherche, nous étudierons les conditions d’utilisation du portrait politique, ainsi que la place laissée à celui-ci dans une presse nationale quotidienne mise à mal par l’évolution des techniques et des moyens de diffusion. Dans un second temps, nous tenterons d’analyser la particularité du portrait politique face aux autres portraits envahissant la presse, dans le but d’interroger la potentielle existence de codes propres à cette discipline. Enfin, cette analyse permettra une interrogation sur la signification, le sens et la place de la création dans ces portraits, afin d’observer à quel point les variables politique et presse conforment, ou non, le portrait.

Abstract: This research project deals with the issue of photographic portraits of politicians, particularly in the national press. In view of the accumulation of portraits in the press, and of the position occupied today by visual communication, it is difficult to know where to draw the line between information, communication and the photographic act, regarding political portraiture in the press. In the first part of this work, we will study the conditions governing the use of political portraits and the place dedicated to these in national newspapers, the circulation of which has dwindled with the development of technology. In the second part, we will try to analyze the special nature of political portraiture compared to other portraits that pervade the press, in order to question the potential existence of codes in this field. Lastly, this analysis will allow us to question the meaning, the perspective and the place of creation in these portraits, in order to observe how the political variable and the press variable comply, or not, with the portrait.
